Measurements in inches. Requires accurate circumferences.
How it works
Estimates body fat percentage using the US Navy circumference method — no calipers or DEXA required.
Who it's for: Fitness enthusiasts, military applicants, and anyone tracking composition changes with a tape measure.
Male formula uses height, neck, and waist circumferences; female formula adds hip measurement.
All measurements are entered in inches per US Navy protocol.
Returns body fat % — a field-expedient estimate, not a clinical DEXA measurement.
How to use
- Select Sex — formulas differ for males and females.
- Enter Height in inches and Neck circumference at the narrowest point below the larynx.
- Measure Waist at the navel level for males; at the narrowest point for females.
- Females: enter Hips at the widest gluteal circumference.
- Read Body fat % — compare trends over time rather than absolute value alone.
- Take each measurement three times and average for consistency.
Good to know
- Do not suck in your stomach — measure at normal exhalation for accurate waist readings.
- Accuracy depends on technique; errors of 1–2 inches can shift results by several percentage points.
