MET examples: walking 3.5, running 8, swimming 6, cycling 7.
How it works
Estimates calories burned during an activity using MET (metabolic equivalent) and duration.
Who it's for: Walkers, hikers, and gym users logging exercise without a wearable device.
Formula: calories = MET × 3.5 × weight (kg) / 200 × minutes.
MET values quantify intensity relative to rest (1 MET = sitting quietly).
Common US Compendium values: walking 3.5, cycling 7, running 8, swimming 6.
How to use
- Enter Weight in pounds.
- Enter MET for your activity (see note in calculator for examples).
- Enter Minutes of continuous activity.
- Read Calories burned for that session.
- Run separate calculations for each activity if your day includes multiple workouts.
- Add results to your TDEE or food diary for net calorie balance.
Good to know
- MET tables assume level terrain and average fitness — hills, wind, and body composition change actual burn.
- Breaks and rest periods reduce average intensity — use active minutes only.
